ASUS A53E-XA2 15.6-Inch Versatile Entertainment Laptop (Black) (Personal Computers) Sorry for the length, but I feel buyers should know… I own two Dell desktops, a Toshiba laptop, and an Asus gaming laptop. I feel that I am very adequate with technical knowledge and I handle most of my support issues personally (i.e. hardware upgrades, repairs, as well as software issues). I researched desktops and laptops extensivelly before I made any purchases. I recently had to purchase a laptop for a graduation gift for my son. I wanted to get him a good laptop for college, which could handle all his classwork and also provide some entertainment. I found numerous reviews on laptops, and two of the most relaible sources listed Asus and Toshiba as tops in reliability. This does not suprise me. I love my Asus gaming laptop. My Toshiba laptop had issues when I tried to use the recovery disk to take it back to its factory state. Toshiba’s customer service was useless and I really feel that they were running a scam to get me to service the laptop through them. I was not happy with them, thankfully I could fix it myself (Clean install of operating system because their recovery disc, the one that came with it, and the two I had to purchase directly from them, were corrupt and would not install). This brings me back to Asus. Who is Asus, but the manufacturer of top hardware for other companies. They are the manufacturers of motherboards and such for companies like Dell and HP. When you buy a Dell or HP, you are most likely purchasing an Asus product. Therefore, why not just buy the Asus instead. Take a good look at their warranty… not bad, is it? I cannot comment on their custumer service, because I have never had to contact them. From other sources I hear that they have one of the best support services in the US. Moving along, this takes me to this Asus model. I struggled with my decision to purchase this model due to the ratings. I always take others personal experiences into consideration. However, in this case I decided to follow my own instincts and disregard what others said. After searching high and low, this was a great price for a laptop with these specs, and from a manufacturer who I have solid faith in. I bought it. I took the time to set it up properly… which if you have ever done this, it is not a plug and play process. It is a grueling 3-4 hours of creating recovery discs (you can just use the partition, but why take the chance), updating hardware (drivers and such) and fully updating windows. You MUST fully uninstall the security software (virus, firewall, etc…) that comes with the laptop if you decide to go with another security software company. DO NOT JUST PUT YOUR OWN SECURITY SOFTWARE ON WITHOUT UNINSTALLING THE FACTORY STATE SOFTWARE! (This could be the cause of a lot of issues) To fully uninstall, I suggest you go to that company’s support website and follow their directions for uninstallation, including using their downloadable tool if one is provided. When you have two different security software products installed on the same computer, you could create a wicked war that will cause operating system errors, failures, and unfortunately crashes. Hmmmm, sound familiar? While this process is time consuming, it should be followed no matter which laptop you purchase! After following all of this, I found this laptop to be excellent. No errors, no failures, and definitly no crashes. Not to disregard other buyer’s issues and reviews, no company is perfect and lemons do make it to the market. It is up to you to decide, but in my opinion, I have purchased a wonderful laptop, with great specs, for an amazing price. I am so happy I followed my instincts. Congratulations Asus, you have once again raised the bar!

ASUS A53E-XA2 15.6-Inch Versatile Entertainment Laptop (Black) (Personal Computers) I don’t know why there are so many bad reviews about this computer.I recently bought this computer and I am very happy with this product. ASUS used to make motherboards, they know what they’re doing!! I have owned SONY VIAO, Toshiba, HP, and others and I am well acquainted with good computers and bad computers. I am very happy with this computer. The i5 processor has been able to handle my every need, it also has a turbo processor which has helped immensely. I travel a lot (usually get about 6hrs, which is a lot for a screen this big) and the battery life is great. The option to have the computer running on high performance or battery saving, I think that is great depending on what you’re doing. The screen size is great. I wasn’t to comfortable with the keyboard at first, but after a week I was. The only thing I can truly complain about with this computer is the camera. The video quality is medium, which is not what I expected of ASUS. Not a problem however if you don’t use it too much. If it is a problem you can buy a good one on the internet from $40. Overall I am very happy with this computer, other than the camera I have no problems. I will update if there is anything wrong with it.

ASUS A53E-XA2 15.6-Inch Versatile Entertainment Laptop (Black) (Personal Computers) This is a great deal. I spent a long time researching laptops in the 500-800 dollar price range to figure out what the best fit for me would be. After comparing and researching for weeks, I randomly found this listing for this laptop one night, and purchased it 10 minutes later. Even though this laptop had only 10 reviews and less than 3 stars, my gut told me to go with it. And I’m glad I did. Now let’s get a few things straight right off the bat. It has no USB 3.0. It also has no WiMAX or WIDI capabilities. That is the end of my cons list. Now for the pros. For $529.00, you get: -The latest Intel i5 processor with Sandy Bridge, running at 2.3ghz with turbo boost up to 2.9ghz. And it works fabulously. -A 640gb hard drive -A comfortable chiclet keyboard complete with a numpad. -One of the best touchpads I’ve used on any laptop, ever. -A 1-year standard warranty AND a 1-year accidental warranty. I love ASUS. -A damn sexy computer. Now I don’t know what the negative reviewers on this site are talking about. I have not once had “programs open at random” or anything of that nature. I have never once had a problem turning on or shutting down the computer, or lag of any sort. Then again, I did take the time to remove any programs I did not want when I received it, I created restore disks, and I configured my anti-virus properly. PCs with Windows these days are incredibly dumbed-down, user-friendly machines. Now I understand that not all people are technologically savvy. I understand that even with the user-friendliness of Windows 7 things can be extremely confusing, especially getting things setup for the first time. And that is fine. However, I think it is just plain silly and extremely misleading to rate a product 1/5 stars when the only thing that should be rated 1/5 is your own technological know-how. I’m sorry, I just felt like that needed to be said. Now back to the actual review. This computer runs quickly, has a decent display, the hdmi works flawlessly, the Smart-Logon facial recognition works incredibly (you do have to set it up and configure it correctly, obviously), it runs as fast as you would think the i5 should, it looks SEXY AS HELL, it feels like it’s built like a tank, it has never once felt more than SLIGHTLY warm no matter what I’m putting it through, it connects to the internet 2 minutes after unboxing and is an overall GREAT DEAL. If you are reading this review and considering this laptop, but are afraid to purchase it based on the negative reviews, I understand your concern. But I’m here to tell you that I had the same concern, purchased it anyway, and am very glad that I did. If you can do without USB 3.0 and WIDI/WiMAX capabilities, this computer is perfect for you. In my opinion, it is just as durably built, just as fast, just as nice as most $700.00 laptops I’ve seen recently. Don’t let the bad reviews steer you away. Read the good ones. Now about this beautiful monitor. I admit I’ve only been looking at it for about a week, but so far my eyes couldn’t be happier. LED screens are clearly going to be the future. They look beautiful and save energy and space, and the screen is SO thin! Setup was a breeze – I just connected it to my desktop. The monitor comes with both DVI and VGA cables, but since my desktop had an HDMI output I bought a Premium High Resolution 10FT / 3m 24K GOLD HDMI TO DVI M/M CABLE FOR HDTV PLASMA DVD that uses the HDMI from my Desktop into the DVI in the monitor. I doubt I really needed to buy this, compared the cable with just the regular DVI to DVI and it still looked great, though it did seem a dash clearer (it could be my imagination). Also, when shopping around and reading reviews of other monitors (especially LED) I noticed several customers complaining that it took a lot of setting switches to get the screen to look right.. with this monitor (at least for me) the picture looked perfect right from the start up. It does let you change the contrast and such, but I haven’t dared to mess with them because I think it looks perfect as is. About the sound.. I watch a lot of movies on my computer and listen to a lot of music, so imagining using a monitor’s built in sound system horrifies me, but if you don’t care about a high quality stereo system, I listened to the speakers and they’ll do just fine. So my overall review is an A+ thumbs up. I spent hours looking at monitors at Best Buy and on Amazon and anywhere else that sells them and I think I made a great choice with this ViewSonic. Granted, I’ve only had it a handful of days, but hopefully I won’t have to revise this review for at least 3 years (that’s how long the warranty is). If you have any other questions about the screen or would like to see a different video just leave a comment and I’ll try to help you out! **4 Month Update** – Just thought I’d let you guys know it’s been nearly 4 months now and my 5 star review still stands so far. Absolutely no dead pixels, and absolutely no problems. Unlike other LEDs I’ve seen in the store, the stand on this is very sturdy and has never even hinted at falling over. My comp doesn’t have a blu ray player, but I watched some 1080p stuff online and it is noticably spectacular on this screen. And now I see Amazon is selling it even cheaper than what I paid for it ($189) so I can’t recommend it enough!

ViewSonic VX2250WM-LED 22-Inch (21.5-Inch Vis) Widescreen Full HD 1080p LED Monitor with Integrated Stereo Speakers (Electronics) I purchased this monitor because I wanted a 22 inch monitor and I didn’t want to spend more than $200. Initial impressions. This thing is light in weight. Very light. I was able to hold the monitor in one hand/arm and use my other hand to set the base and plug in the power and dvi cable without a much strain. The base is made of plastic and feels cheap. That was my first reaction, when I unwrapped the base. Once I had it on the monitor though it did it’s job. This combination though makes the monitor easily wobble if it is not sitting on a sturdy desk/table, keep that in mind. (My desk is very sturdy, so this wasn’t an issue.) It comes with a VGA/DVI cable, which was a pleasant surprise. I’m a programmer. This monitor arrived at my place of work and as soon as it came, I immediately replaced one of my monitors and worked the whole day with it. It was easy on the eyes and I could see myself using this as my daily programming monitor. It also made my other Dell monitor look old because this monitor has great contract and was bright. Pictures and text looked great on the screen. At the end of the day I did notice that this monitor gives off very little heat, very nice. Had I based my purchasing decision on this experience, it would have been a keeper. I’m delving into web/print design. Here’s where I have an issue with the monitor. I’m working on some website and print designs and I need the colors to reproduce accurately on the screen. I know that all LCD monitors change color saturation/contrast when looking at the monitor at an angle, however, I noticed that when I look at this monitor directly, the color was too washed out, where to me, it didn’t accurately reproduce the color at the angle that it should produce the color contrast/saturation the best (or really close to it). Normally I wouldn’t care for this, but I need the color to look accurate. I played around with the monitor brightness/contrast/color and that didn’t fix the problem. I played around with my NVidia desktop color settings and I couldn’t fix the problem. Lastly I compared this monitor with another 22 inch LCD and it only confirmed my findings. Conclusion. If you are considering purchasing this monitor for normal use, i.e. web surfing, document editing watching movies, then by all means don’t hesitate to purchase it, it’s a good monitor for the price. As a programmer/normal user, I would give this monitor 4 stars. As a web/print designer, I would give this monitor 3 stars. Since I have to use it in designer mode, then I could not keep the monitor, so I returned it.

I’ve been using them for the past couple of hours. The screens are absolutely beautiful. Pros -Great color, perfect picture -First screen I’ve never had to change the color settings on. -Sturdy stand, minimal screen wobble -Perfect size -Easy on the eyes -Great brightness -No dead/stuck pixels -Windows 7 automatically installed the driver for the screen Cons -The speakers are awful (what did you expect?) -The screen didn’t look perfect before the driver was installed, definitely install it -The menu is not very intuitive, took a few seconds to figure out -Changing volume is a pain -When screen is completely black, there is a little bit of light bleed on the edges Notes -Don’t buy these for the speakers, unless it’s an office environment -If using speakers, just turn the volume up to 100 on the screen and control it from the computer -Remember to install the monitor driver This is really a great monitor! As a programmer, I’m extremely happy to have two of these when working on projects.

Toshiba Satellite L755-S5349 15.6-Inch LED Laptop – Fusion Finish in Matrix Silver (Personal Computers) This is my first personal Satellite purchase but had very good experience through previous Satellite work issued laptops. I mainly use it for email, internet, and managing personal files (pics, vids, etc.). I occassionaly use it for work via VPN and it has not given me any problems. The screen is nice and the images comes very clear, the keyboard and the fit just feels right. I consider myself an average user and this computer serves my need. The price is another driving influence that made me purchase this laptop. I’ts nice to have the higher-end laptops, but this fits my budget and the features I need. I normally dont participate in reviews/surveys but this laptop has not given me any problems and hope to share my thoughts… another satisfied customer.

Toshiba Satellite L755-S5349 15.6-Inch LED Laptop – Fusion Finish in Matrix Silver (Personal Computers) My Dell died and this Toshiba was purchased as a replacement. FYI, the last computer cost a bit over $1,000 – this computer is $499. Perhaps the Toshiba doesn’t look as slick, but it functions as well or better than the three-year-old Dell.It was very fast to set this computer up, connecting to the wireless network and getting online took less than 10 minutes. The keyboard is full sized with nice key action. The screen is big, bright and really sharp. Nice.It has some pretty cool features – A button to deactivate the track pad when using an external mouse – an HDMI port for plugging into TVs – the Track pad has a touch feature for expanding and contracting your internet browser – even when the computer is asleep, you can charge your toys like ipad, phone… – there is a media card reader slot for a camera media cardSome drawbacks – The keyboard isn’t backlit – It isn’t the thinnest or lightest laptop, but it is light enough for its size.Considering the amazingly low price, the few drawbacks couldn’t keep the computer from getting a five star review. What a deal!

Toshiba Satellite L755-S5349 15.6-Inch LED Laptop – Fusion Finish in Matrix Silver (Personal Computers) No laptop is perfect, but sometimes you just find a computer that works for you. This laptop does everything I need it to very well. Positives: I bought this laptop so that the entire family had a computer in the living room; the two of us use it regularly. I wanted something that had a new Intel Core processors and HDMI port so that we could hook it up directly to our TV. The best thing about this laptop is the price along with some of the newer features. The screen is bright and the keyboard is nice; I find myself using the 10-key more than I thought I would. Battery is lasting about 6 hours as I am surfing the web on Sundays while checking football scores and watching funny Youtube videos. For those that care about noise this thing doesn’t really make any; the i3 processor doesn’t seem to run hot and the fan rarely turns on.Negatives: I took off a star because the machine has a lot of junk software on it. I wish Toshiba would allow their customers to select an option that only boots the OS at setup and removes all the unnecessary stuff. Once I removed all the software the laptop loads in 15-20 seconds. This is not a serious gaming laptop or a serious media machine; my niece and nephew have played a few web games and it runs anything that doesn’t require a dedicated video card. Overall I am very satisfied with the purchase. I looked around and based off my price/features comparison from a brand I trusted I landed here.

Haier L32D1120 32-Inch 720p LCD HDTV, Black (Electronics) Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What’s this?) We have had two new HD TVs for just a bit over 5 months. One is a 23″ Sony and one a 32″ LG. The Sony hooked up easily, but the LG was like our first color set. We diddled with picture, sound, aspect ratio, and other settings to get the best picture and sound on each channel. I still don’t know if the differences between channels is resolution, settings, or in the case of the news, makeup. But we were just happy to get it so that we could see all the face lifts…Now for the Haier, a relatively unknown Chinese brand of high definition TV. I plugged it into our Comcast cable box using an HDMI cable, and bingo, a bright and sharp picture with wonderful sound. For a few minutes I was sure a mistake was made, and we had been given a 1080p instead of the 720 that was on the box. Perhaps anything under 50 inches doesn’t matter. We think that the Haier is just as good and maybe even a little better picture than the LG! Not one factory setting had to be changed!The sound from the built-in speakers is excellent – in part due to using an HTMI cable – and the Sound Leveler really works. No more spikes when changing channels and it even works on commercials that used to blare 10 db higher than the program.(The hookups and quality are very good with our DVD player and photographs on a flash drive, but they will not be used very much. The TV will not be used with our computer, so I can’t address that either. Some will complain about the inputs being placed under a lip in the back, but most HD TVs use the same configuration because so many people will wall mount the TV. If the plugs were straight in, the TV would not be flush with the wall.)Initially, we had so much trouble with the remote from Comcast, that I was about to give this only 4 stars. We can only get HD through the Comcast box, and the Comcast remote – as bad as it is – should be our only remote. But the Comcast remote would not accept the two codes for the Haier TV, and I thought we would have to use two remotes. I called Comcast, and they gave me the same two numbers that came with their box. I called Haier, and they told me that they DIDN’T HAVE CODES FOR Comcast.All was not lost, however. I went on line, asked for “Comcast remote codes for Haier,” and the second link was a discussion where one respondent said, “Try the codes for DURABRAND.”The third code under Durabrand (10178), and we were set!I said in the title of this review that it was unexpectedly fantastic. Well, this is a phenomenal TV especially considering that it was the least expensive of all 32 inch HD sets. We now have great Hi Def in our bedroom where, in six minutes, I’m going to watch the last game of the World Series! (Sure, I could watch it in the living room, but I like new experiences.)EW

While browsing the deal sites I noticed this TV listed at $197 dollars and clicked the link to the Amazon site. I was not familiar with the Haier brand of televisions and thought of it as a cheap knockoff TV with subpar screens. There were only four reviews of this TV while i was contemplating the purchase and though they were mostly good i was a little leery about buying this. Amazon made the decision easier by offering a 30 day guarantee with free return shipping so I went ahead and purchased the TV. I am a subscriber to Amazon Prime, so 2 day shipping was free. The TV showed up on my doorstep 2 days after the purchase. Thank you Amazon. The box that the TV came in was in great shape. There were no dents and it didn’t look like the box had been abused. The packaging for the TV was superb. I unwrapped the TV and removed the plastic on the front of the TV. The front bezel is a very shiny plastic. The stand which is also a shiny black plastic comes with 4 screws to attach to the TV. This TV comes with a glowing light at the bottom center of the bezel which indicates whether the TV is on or off. It shows red when off and green when on. Nice touch for such a low priced TV. I hooked my DirectTV box to the TV and selected the correct HDMI input. The inputs on the back are not exactly in the best positioning for connection of your devices. I assume they configured the hookups that away because some people like to hang the TV’s on the wall install of the stand. The picture on this TV is very clear with very good color saturation. Some TV’s look a bit washed out but not this TV. Would this TV compare to a high definition TV such a Sony or Samsung? I would say no, but you would pay much more for one of those TV’s. Some people have said that the sound is not very good on this TV. I find that the sound is more than adequate. It gets plenty loud in my office. I’ve never owned any TV where the sound is great coming out of its own speakers. Thats why they have surround systems. People, for the price you cannot go wrong with this TV. If this is the size of TV you are looking for and are wanting to use it in a bedroom or office or anywhere a smaller TV is adequate I would say…Buy it now!!! Before the price goes up.
